15 Mar Gun room large cabinet doors… Colour correction.
These large doors had been made and finished by another company to fit to an existing cabinet. However the new doors did not match the old woodwork, (right picture) and I was approached to rectify the problem and refinish the glazed doors to match the old woodwork, (left of picture). This was a large job with 8 glazed doors and 4 large frames. To achieve the correct colour/tone the doors not only had to have the existing finish completely removed but sanded back and a two part bleach applied. This took out the cool slightly purplish tinge of the American Walnut and allowed a warmer stain to be applied. The doors were then refinished. When working with anything glazed one of the essential but time consuming tasks is preparing and protecting the glass!
